Summer Trails FAQs
FAQs
What age are the trails suitable for?
Anyone can enjoy the trails – we often learn something when we are putting them together! We think the sweet spot is children between the ages of 4 and 11. The routes are buggy friendly so younger children can join in the fun.
How long is the route?
The route changes from week to week but is roughly 1.5km. You are welcome to extend your walk if you wish – the maximum distance around the perimeter of the fields is 2km.
How long will the trails take?
It depends on how quickly you walk but we would suggest you allow between 40 minutes and one hour. You are welcome to stay in the fields as long as you like!
How many children can I bring?
As many as you like! If we are busy, we may ask you to share a trail sheet and clipboard so that there are enough to go around.
Do we need to register in advance?
No, just turn up on the day and get your trail sheet from one of our lovely volunteers – they’ll be set up in the Grange Road car park.
How much do the trails cost?
We are hoping to raise money for Grange Area Trust to help maintain Widmer Fields so there is a suggested donation of £1 for the first child and 50p for every additional child. However, we do not want the cost to put anyone off joining us – anyone who turns up can take part. Equally, if you’d like to donate more than the suggested amount, we’d be very grateful!
Is there parking?
There is limited car parking in the Grange Road car park. If the car park is full, we ask that you park on the grass verge on Cryers Hill Lane (opposite Grange Road) and walk back to the starting point – please cross the road carefully! Please don’t park in the Village Hall car park; this is for users of the Village Hall only, and please don’t park in front of the gates further down the track; they are in constant use by the farmer.
Can dogs come on the trail?
Yes they can – Widmer Fields is very popular with dog walkers so you may see some other doggies as you walk.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather (which in our lovely English summer could be flip flops or welly boots!). If the weather is warm we recommend sunscreen and water.
Are there toilets?
Unfortunately, there are no toilets on Widmer Fields. The nearest public conveniences are in the Park Parade shops in Hazlemere.
What is Grange Area Trust?
Grange Area Trust (GAT) was established in 2012. It is a registered charity with the purpose of maintaining Widmer Fields as a green space for the local community. You can read more about the work of GAT here: https://widmerfields.uk/
