Volunteering
Our Volunteering
We have a wide range of tasks where you can support the trust in managing and maintaining Widmer Fields. If you are retired or have time on you hands then there is always something that needs attention. Volunteers for the practical work meet 2-3 times a week (weather permitting) from 9:30-12:30. Other activities are carried out in an ad-hoc fashion as and when the need arises.

Practical Work
Widmer Fields is under constant maintenance as we battle the brambles and blackthorn for mastery of the open spaces:
– cutting back bramble & blackthorn hedges
– removing low hanging branches
– maintaining the paths
– felling unsafe trees
– control/ cutting of grass, ivy & bushes
– watering new planting

Wildlife & Projects
Encouraging wildlife on the fields is one of the key aims of the trust and we require help with:
– making, repairing bird and bat boxes
– creation of bug and insect habitats
– pond and planting support
– fruit tree pruning in the orchard area
– building hedgehog homes
– topping up dog watering bowls
– information panel design

Fundraising & Events
The Grange Area Trust survives on charitable donations only. So support with fundraising is as important as the practical work:
– delivering leaflets/newsletters
– dog walker events
– fun trails for children
– raising awareness on social media
– writing articles for Widmer End News
– quiz nights
– selling calendars
